Warm homes, greener homes

8 March, 2010

'Warm Homes, Greener Homes' is the government’s household energy management strategy, launched on 2 March 2010. The strategy sets out plans for meeting the target of a reduction of 29% in carbon emissions from households by 2020.

It also includes:

  • an interim commitment to ensure that, by 2015, every household will have installed loft and cavity wall insulation where practical to do so

  • by 2020 up to seven million homes will have received 'eco-upgrades', including improvements such as solid wall insulation or technology that generates renewable energy

  • ‘Pay As You Save’ green finance to be introduced

  • a new, transparent and stretching obligation on energy companies, and

  • an emphasis on partnership working with local authorities in delivery.

Priority will be given to those on lower incomes and the most vulnerable. Further information is available on the Department of Energy and Climate Change website. Foundations will produce a policy bulletin on the strategy in the coming weeks.
