Criminals have managed to clone prepayment meter keys to make money by offering discounted credit to thousands of customers.
If you use a prepayment electricity meter you could be affected by the latest scam according to industry body Energy UK.
Since the start of the summer, an estimated 85,000 households have been approached by doorstep salesmen who have managed to clone prepayment meter keys to make money by offering discounted credit to thousands of customers.
But, customers who buy the half-price black market credit could end up having to pay again for the energy they use.
Customers are being asked to report anyone they know selling top-ups illegally to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
