It leads to a nationally recognised qualification, accredited by the Open College Network (five credits at level 2).

The training will take place in fully equipped centres designed for demonstration and practical application. All the trainers involved are highly experienced in supporting disabled people and using assistive technology, and all are accredited as trainers by Assist UK.

The five OCN credits gained through this qualification can be used to progress to the Assist UK Trusted Assessor Qualification (worth 11 OCN credits) which is currently the only nationally recognised Trusted Assessor Qualification.

5. How is the qualification structured?

Workshop element and two workshop-based assignments

Two one-day practical workshops, each followed by an assignment.

Show details

Workshop One, 'Getting It Right for the Individual' will focus on the principles of the Trusted Assessor Model and identify the importance of placing the person's needs at the centre of the decision-making process.

Workshop Two, 'Getting On With Life - Practical Answers for Independence' will address the practical considerations associated with the advice and information about assistive technology and non-routine solutions designed to support the independence of older and disabled clients

Following each workshop, you will be expected to complete a work-based assignment (you should allow about six hours).

Attending both workshops, plus successfully completing the assignments, will lead to the award of two OCN credits at Level 2 and the Role of Trusted Assessment in Housing Qualification.

You can choose to attend the workshops only - you will still benefit from the valuable knowledge, skills and behaviours that you can gain from them. If you choose this option, you will be given an Assist UK/Foundations Certificate of Professional Development, but will not be able to state that you are an accredited Trusted Technician.
