The Trusted Technician qualification has been developed by Assist UK in partnership with Foundations. It gives you the chance to receive a national qualification accredited by the Open College Network (OCN).
Participants who complete the full programme, consisting of two days of practical workshops followed by three supported work-based assignments, will receive five OCN credits. You can also choose to attend the workshops as stand-alone training events.
This programme is designed to benefit all front-line staff supporting older and disabled people to live independently at home.
Managers and supervisors of these staff will also benefit from the practical workshops, gaining an appreciation of the Trusted Assessor Model and the enhanced role that their staff will be able to play in helping their clients live independently.
As a result of attending this training, you will be able to:
Understand the importance of the Trusted Assessor competencies and the contribution that applying those competencies will make to independent living
Apply a person-centred approach to providing effective solutions to your clients' needs
Identify, through listening to clients, the barriers to their independence and provide effective solutions to removing those barriers
Identify, evaluate and demonstrate products designed to give independence and develop an understanding of how non-routine solutions can also contribute to a person's independence, and
Identify local sources of information, products and resources that can help make your clients more independent
There are other training programmes based on the Trusted Assessor Competence Framework.
Our Trusted Technician qualification is the only qualification based on the Competency Framework for Trusted Assessors, for front-line staff working with older and disabled people in their own home.
It leads to a nationally recognised qualification, accredited by the Open College Network (five credits at level 2).
The training will take place in fully equipped centres designed for demonstration and practical application. All the trainers involved are highly experienced in supporting disabled people and using assistive technology, and all are accredited as trainers by Assist UK.
The five OCN credits gained through this qualification can be used to progress to the Assist UK Trusted Assessor Qualification worth 11 OCN credits.
The Trusted Technician qualification can be structured in three different ways.
Option 1: The workshops can be held as stand alone training events. If you attend the workshops only - you will still benefit from the valuable knowledge, skills and behaviours that you can gain from them. If you choose this option, you will be given an Assist UK/Foundations Certificate of Professional Development, but will not be able to state that you are an accredited Trusted Technician.
Workshop One, 'Getting It Right for the Individual' will focus on the principles of the Trusted Assessor Model and identify the importance of placing the person's needs at the centre of the decision-making process.
Workshop Two, 'Getting On With Life - Practical Answers for Independence' will address the practical considerations associated with the advice and information about assistive technology and non-routine solutions designed to support the independence of older and disabled clients
Option 2: Attending both workshops, plus successfully completing a work-based assignment after each workshop, (for which, you should allow about six hours), will lead to the award of two OCN credits at Level 2.
Option 3: As option 2 plus three additional work-based activities and the completionof the Passport to Practice will lead to the Trusted Technician Qualification worth 5 OCN Credits.
The Trusted Technician qualification can be delivered in-house at your local Independent Living Centre.
