Mr and Mrs C have lived in their home for over 40 years, since it was built as a local authority property: "We were the first ones in on the street, the road was not even built yet." Work carried out included a boiler replacement after their boiler was condemned following a leak. At the time there was a six-month wait for heating grants through the usual channels, but the home improvement agency pushed for other means of funding as the couple could not wait that long. They had no hot water and were carrying kettles of boiling water upstairs to wash.
