Adaptations in Social Housing

Tenants with a disability living in social housing can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant to adapt their home. Equally, social landlords have responsibilities to provide suitable housing for their tenants. This often leads to splits in responsibility that can lead to delays and frustrations for tenants.

In 2008 Habinteg commissioned a good practice guide for housing associations and local authorities to follow in drawing up joint protocols for delivery of adaptations. While it is still a useful resource the policy environment has changed significantly and Foundations is seeing an increase in local issues that are negatively impacting on tenants.

With the support of Taylor Wimpey, we are now refreshing the guidance in partnership with Habinteg and Anchor Hanover.
