Intermediate means tested benefits training course

A one-day course setting out the current Benefits environment.

This course looks at the core means-tested benefits system which will exist when the changes fully come into force. It also covers the still lengthy period of operation of the legacy benefits and the changes introduced to them.
Some of the areas covered in the course include:

  • Universal credit - its introduction, coverage and the scheme details for the variants in force.

  • Council Tax Benefit and the effects of localisation of the benefit

  • Pension Credit, including the differences for those receiving new State Pension and basic State pension. Future changes to age and capital rules and consideration of children and housing support.

  • The move to loans for housing support for purchasers and shared owners

  • Housing support for supported housing.

  • The two child limit

  • The effects of the benefit caps

  • Housing support, size limits and the 'bedroom'

  • Non-dependants

By the end of this course you will:

  • Have a knowledge of the position and content of the changes

  • Have an understanding of the impact on clients and advisers

  • Know the areas where change is going to impact those you help and the ways in which they may be affected

There will be a set of course notes to work with on the day together with:

  • Demonstration examples
