Join Foundations on Tuesday 5 August for Foundations LIVE where we’re launching a new design guide around adapting homes for behaviours of concern.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Foundations, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact while delivering exceptional services as the National Body. Our sustainability strategy is a testament to our commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring a greener future.
Our Environmental Policy
Our activities are underpinned by a robust environmental policy designed to limit our environmental footprint. Here’s how we achieve this:
Hybrid Working Policy
- Smaller Office: By adopting a hybrid working policy, we have significantly reduced our office space, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint. This change allows us to operate more efficiently while using fewer resources.
Public Transport and Reduced Travel
- Public Transport: We prioritise the use of public transport wherever possible. This helps reduce our reliance on personal vehicles, lowering our carbon emissions.
- Online Meetings: We encourage online meetings whenever practicable. Video conferencing tools have become integral to our operations, reducing the need for travel and minimising our environmental impact.
Continuing Innovations Post-Pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic taught us valuable lessons about flexibility and adaptability. We have integrated these lessons into our sustainability strategy:
- Video Calls and Webinars: We will continue to use video calls and webinars alongside face-to-face meetings and in-person events. This hybrid approach ensures effective communication while minimising travel-related emissions.
Our Sustainability Strategy
This strategy outlines how we plan to reset our activities in response to climate change and the lessons learned from the pandemic. Our key focus areas include:
Reducing Carbon Footprint from Travel
- Video Conferencing Strategy: Standardising video conferencing tools and encouraging their use can save up to 2-5 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
- Public Transport Use: Promoting the use of public transport for meetings can reduce our carbon footprint by 3-7 tonnes annually.
- Conference Venues: Picking venues within walking distance of a mainline railway station can further save 3-4 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
- Carbon Offsetting: Partnering with verified carbon offsetting projects to neutralise unavoidable emissions, offsetting approximately 10 tonnes per year.
Minimising Waste
- Digital Material: Shifting to digital materials for training and events can save 0.2-0.5 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
- Reusable Items: Reducing single-use items can save 0.1-0.3 tonnes per year.
- Sustainable Catering: Using local, sustainably-sourced food can reduce emissions by 0.5-1 tonne per year.
- Sustainable Office Supplies: Opting for eco-friendly office supplies can save 0.3-0.6 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Increasing Use of Digital Platforms
- Online Training Modules: Developing online training can save 4-6 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
- Digital Consultancy Services: Offering remote consultancy services can reduce emissions by 2-4 tonnes annually.
- Paperless Operations: Implementing paperless operations can save 0.1-0.3 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Promoting Sustainable Practices
- Employee Training and Workshops: Regular training on sustainability can lead to significant long-term savings.
- Client and Partner Education: Educating our clients and partners can amplify our impact, promoting wider adoption of sustainable practices.
- Regular Audits and Reporting: Performing regular audits ensures we stay on track and continuously improve our sustainability efforts.
