Home Improvement Agencies often struggle to find training courses that meet the needs of their teams - so we provide specialist courses specifically designed for caseworkers, technical officers, agency managers, handypersons and occupational therapists. We offer both offline and online training sessions as well as our always-popular FREE DFG Training.

Upcoming Training

Foundations offers a range of training courses and CPD sessions aimed mainly at caseworkers and technical staff. The courses are updated regularly, and we respond to national legislative changes to ensure they meet the needs of the sector.

We are always willing to put on new courses if the demand is there so if you have a particular need, please let us know and we will see what we can do. And remember you get 10% off if you work for an accredited Home Improvement Agency - call us on 0300 124 0315 for the discount code.

Continuing Professional Development, or CPD, is produced by our Commercial Partners. This CPD is assessed by Foundations and provided via free in-house lunchtime seminars or webinars.

Free DFG Basics Training

The basic rules for the Disabled Facilities Grant are set out in the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 - but there is a range of Regulations, General Consents and Orders that add further details, not to mention several updates to the guidance over the years. Then there are court rulings that set precedents and hundreds of judgements from the Local Government Ombudsman.

Not surprisingly it can be quite complicated to work out how all this fits together and whether some applications should be approved or not. This leads to some decisions being based on local custom and practice rather than a firm understanding of the rules.

That’s why we offer this short in-house course for free, covering:

  • How to apply the Act
  • How the Regulations, Consents and Orders work
  • Key elements from the guidance
  • When and how to use discretion
  • Good practice examples
  • Sample cases from the Ombudsman

Here’s what people have said about the course:

“Well and interestingly presented. I loved the many contributions from other course participants and the fact that the facilitator was so experienced and knowledgeable. I also appreciated the very ‘human’ approach.”

“Excellent to getting an overview of what is important and why”

“I think this course would be a really good use of time for Better Care Fund leads across the country”
